Surprise Pattern Release and a FPP Tutorial

Surprise! I’ve just added another pattern to my shop! The Economy Block has always been one of my very favorite quilt blocks, and while they can be made using traditional piecing methods, I’ve found that I prefer a FPP version. Foundation paper piecing provides crisp, clean lines, sharp points and consistently accurate finished sizes each and every time. Plus, no pre-cutting required!
The pattern includes five block sizes: 3”, 4”, 5”, 6” and 7.5”, which is the largest I can fit on a printable sheet of paper. This pattern is great for those wanting to learn FPP as there are no sections to join. It’s a simple, basic FPP pattern.
Sometime next week, I’m going to post a photo tutorial of the FPP process using this pattern. If you’d like to learn FPP, or even just brush up on your skills, I hope you’ll give it a try! This pattern is not required in order to learn via my tutorial. You can choose any basic FPP pattern and follow the same process. The order of operations is the same. However, for those who wish to follow along exactly, this pattern is what the tutorial will be based on.
If you’re new to FPP, you’ll want to make sure you have a few helpful notions before jumping in. You’ll need to decide what kind of paper you want to stitch with. Some quilters use regular printer paper, and that’s fine, but it is limiting in some ways. Others use freezer paper, while still others purchase special FPP paper. You’ll also need an Add-a-Quarter ruler and a small piece of card stock or thick paper, roughly 4” x 6” in size. (Hint: my Quilt With Kate notecards work wonderfully for this if you have one on hand!)
Below are some links to my preferred paper choice and Add-a-Quarter ruler.
