Adding Windows to Your Spooky House
Every so often, I get a message from a customer asking how to insert the windows into my “Home for the Holidays” pattern. Because the pattern is customizable with various window options (and doors, rooflines, house style, etc.), it can be a little confusing about how to add those into the main house templates. Hopefully, these photos and tips will help you better understand and make customizing your windows a breeze.
Photo 1: Gather your scraps and cut out your chosen window templates. Piece the windows using the FPP method.
Photo 2: Place a finished window face down on your work surface. Take the template of the section of the house you’re inserting the window into and place it on top of the finished window, face up as pictured in the photo. Make sure the lines of the “Window” section align with the lines of the finished window.
Photo 3: Treat the finished window just as you would the first piece of fabric when piecing the house template. For example, in these photos, your finished window would be piece 1B, and you would place a piece of fabric for 2B on top of 1B, right sides together, and stitch using the FPP method. Press open and proceed with the rest of the house template.
Photo 4: Stand back and admire your successfully-completed windows with shutters!
